Geocache Description:

Chinook Library opened its doors in 1960 in the new shopping centre with the same name and closed its doors in 1998. Resources were relocated to establish the Shawnessy Library south of Fish Creek Park.

OPTIONAL: If you want to go and find the old location; now used as a training centre for Chinook Centre, walk through the doors, down 3 x 9. Walk 37 squares across and look through the doors to your right. Now imagine lots of shelves full with books...

OK, time to find the cache:

at the corner turn a Chapter to the right

36 posts will lead you to the Egyptian Beetle

There is a attached stamp in the cache, it is not an item intended for trade; the stamp is meant to remain there so that visitors can use it to record their visit. Please feel free to "collect" the stamp in your letterboxing notebook if you have one.

In June 2012, as part of our centennial celebrations, The Calgary Public Library launched an exciting new initiative - Library Scavenger Hunt – 100 Years, 100 Treasures. Our goal is to raise the profile of the Calgary Public Library as an engaging and vibrant organization, and encourage urban exploration through a city-wide geo-caching scavenger hunt for all ages incorporating all library locations and other key sites around the city. Using GPS units available at all library locations, Calgarians will search out hidden treasures and complete quizzes and riddles about the Library and our city. Offered in partnership with the City of Calgary Parks, this program provides a stay-vacation activity for family and friends throughout the summer and beyond. It promises to be a fun, cross-generational activity encouraging Calgarians to rediscover their library and enjoy many interesting Calgary sites.
