Geocache Description:

Found this historical area recently as it re-opened to the public. ~~WILL BE BUSY~~Hatchery Park Grand Opening/Open House Celebration on September 15th, 2012. 11am to 6pm **Due to unplanned landscaping, please be sure to put cache back just as it was found so that it won't get muggled.

This area is wonderful for catching fish or a nice stroll.  A little bit of history behind the Hatchery:

Spring Grove was chosen as the location for the first state fish hatchery in 1914 because of the natural cold water springs which produced over 300 gallons of water a minute.  The large pond was fed exclusively by springs and was perfectly clear.  The greatest depth of the pond (6-12 feet deep) is on the south side of the pond, where the feeding springs are located.  Most of the pond is 2-5 feet in depth.

After being closed in 2004, the Hatchery was re-opened in 2012.  Hatchery Park, once the State of Illinois' only fish hatchery, is now a village park with catch and release fishing ponds, walking path and visitor's center with displays of the history of the site.

Opened dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.

Muggle activity heavy on weekends.

Looking for green ammo box.
