The cache IS at the posted coordinates.
To access this cache, you first must find the padlock’s combination, which is somewhere on the cache itself. But where? Be gentle; no tools or undue force is required.
There’s convenient parking on the SOUTH side of the road about 15 metres west of the cache. Please don’t park in the driveway north of the road. And please don’t drive or walk into the field. NOTE: Be aware that there is barbed wire on the ground near the cache.
This should be a fun find for kids (and kids at heart) who enjoy a little scare. (Ralph, don’t press the button!) In addition to regular trade items, this cache has a special bag of small Halloween gifts for the first 25 kids.
You must sign the cache’s logbook to claim an online “Found It.”
Congratulations to peanutbutterbreadand jam, Jam_Packed_Cat, and nightowlzzz for being the first to find this cache.
A Little History
Derived from photo by Jean Fontayne
While driving along some lonely country roads south of Indus, I spotted an old, weathered farm shed that had partially collapsed. I took a few pictures and decided this was a good location for a geocache, so I went in search of the land owner.
I spoke to a friendly neighbour and learned that the buildings were abandoned years ago. He didn’t know why. At least, he wasn’t saying why. Unfortunately, he didn’t know who owned the property.
I talked to a few more people but had no better luck finding the owner. After driving past the shed one last time, I looked in my rearview mirror and suddenly noticed a pickup truck near the shed. I’d swear it wasn’t there 15 seconds earlier.
I made a quick U-turn and went out to chat with the farmer. He had no problem with me placing a cache. He also had no more information about the deserted structures.
I “hid” my freshly painted cache on a Tuesday. On Friday night, I returned to add a few items and was shocked to discover that, like the nearby shed, the cache had deteriorated considerably. There are some weird forces at work in this area.
About 50 metres away, an owl was perched on a fence post. It’s eyes glowed red, but maybe that was just the way they reflected my flashlight beam. A flock (or “murder”) of crows flew by, and many of their eyes appeared to be red as well. Several coyotes howled in the distance, and a shiver rose up my spine.
Anyway, have fun searching for this cache. Just don’t be too surprised if strange things occur while you’re looking. Good luck.
