Geocache Description:

We think Andy would have liked this fishing hole at Possum Creek MetroPark! Enjoy the beautiful scenery and bring your fishing pole. Fishing is permissible at Argonne Lake and the fishing ponds at Possum Creek without a license. Check out metroparks.org for more information.

Take the main entrance into Possum Creek MetroPark and follow the signs to the lake parking lot. The cache is near the blue trail which makes a large circle around the lake. You can choose to enjoy the lovely views by taking the long way around the lake to the cache or make a quick trip by the lake to the cache. Please stay on the designated trails and follow all park rules per orders of Five Rivers MetroParks. Also, there is no bushwacking required and please do not make a trail to the cache. Permission has been granted to place this cache by Five Rivers MetroParks under permit #8-12-2043.

The Andy Griffith Show has always been our all-time favorite show. In honor of Andy Griffith (b. June 1, 1926 d. July 3, 2012) and the cast we are creating an Andy Griffith series. We hope to create some fun and bring a smile to your face!

Mayberry’s County Sheriff, Andy Taylor, played by Andy Griffith in The Andy Griffith Show, was calm, cool, and collected maintaining law and order without carrying a gun amongst the zany characters in his community, but also contributed his own humor to the show.

Fun Fact: Originally the intro song “Fishing Hole” was supposed to be sung, but the producers decided that whistling the song better set the tone for the show. Here are two versions of the song sung on youtube.
Andy Griffith himself singing "Fishing Hole"
Darryl Worley and Wynn Varble singing "Fishing Hole"

"The Fishing Hole"
Well, now, take down your fishin' pole and
meet me at The Fishin' Hole,
We may not get a bite all day,
but don't you rush away.
What a great place to rest your bones and
mighty fine for skippin' stones,
You'll feel fresh as a lemonade,
a-settin' in the shade.
Whether it's hot, whether it's cool,
oh what a spot for whistlin' like a fool.
What a fine day to take a stroll and wander by
The Fishin' Hole,
I can't think of a better way
to pass the time o'day.

We'll have no need to call the roll when we get
to The Fishin' Hole,
There'll be you, me and Old Dog Trey,
to doodle time away.
If we don't hook a perch or bass,
we'll cool our toes in dewy grass,
Or else pull up a weed to chaw,
and maybe set and jaw.
Hangin' around, takin' our ease,
watchin' that hound a-scratchin' at his fleas.
Come on, take down your fishin' pole
and meet me at The Fishin' Hole,
I can't think of a better way
to pass the time o'day.
