You will be going on a short tour of Hokah and explore some of the history of the city. Welcome to the Hokah Legion ballpark, while the ballpark now provides a recreation area it seems that this area has a long history of being used for recreation. The area that you are now in at one time was part of Lake Como where people from all over would come to relax and have fun much like folks continue to do now.

History:
In August of 1909 the lake was lost to a flood. It was reported the lake rose 6 feet 6 inches and within an hour and a half of the dam going out the water dropped 18 feet 6 inches leaving the falls high and dry. Lake Como was rebuilt in 1922 and severalcottages were built shortly after. By the late 1930’s it filled with silt due to poor conservation practices. The lake bed is now home to Como Falls Park established in 1997, a municipal spring fed natural swimming pool built in 1968, fishing ponds, Legion ballfield, a recreation area that includes a mini golf, disc golf, driving range and volleyball courts in addition to fields for crops. In August 2007, a record 24 hour rainfall of 15.1 inches resulted in major flooding that damaged everything in the lakebed. The recreational facilities were all later repaired.
