Minifig Ant: With a heavy heart I archive this cache :( I had one last attempt at retrieving the container from its muddy grave but without success. Magnets - how do they work?

Geocache Description:

A cache in tribute to one of the gratest TV shows ever created, Doctor Who!

The Doctor Is In!

Doctor Who is one of the best-known and longest-running science fiction TV shows in the world. Starting in November 1963 (the day after Kennedy was assassinated) and pitched as primarily an adventure show to teach children about history, the program quickly became a favourite with kids and adults alike. The compelling exploits of the travelling timelord known only as The Doctor and his companions made for exciting viewing.

Cardboard sets and poor production values did not detract from the earnestness of the characters, or the terror of the Doctor's enemies. And he had so many enemies...

If you grew up in the 70s or 80s in Australia, Doctor Who was probably a regular part of your viewing habits.

In 1989 after 25 years, the show was cancelled. Seven actors had played the Doctor on television, the last being Sylvester McCoy. In 1996 a television movie was produced featuring Paul McGann as the timelord, with the intention of it being a pilot for a new series with a wider appeal. However the show failed to rate well and again The Doctor disappeared.

That is until 2005, when a brand new series, revamped and sexed up was produced by the BBC. A younger Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, burst onto the screen and captured the imagination of 21st century Britain (and the rest of the world) once again.

Now in it's 32nd season (or 6th, depending if you're an Old-Who or New-Who fan), the Doctor shows no signs of slowing down. Here's hoping the Doctor continues to save the universe ad infinitum!

The Cache

The cache container is a TARDIS, though one that must have gone through some kind of dimensional compression - maybe the Master and his TCE were involved? In any case it's much smaller than usual (and even smaller on the inside!).

There's no pen in the cache so bring your own. It's also too small for swaps. A log extraction tool may come in handy.

When you log your find, if you're a fan, tell me about an experience you've had with Who. Maybe your favourite episode, or your favourite actor to play the travelling timelord. Or maybe the scariest villain or monster you ever saw on the show.

For me, Tom Baker, Doctor number 4, will always be my favourite (though David Tennant will come in a very close second). The most frightening episode I ever saw was The Stones Of Blood, and the nightmarish monoliths with their deafening heartbeats still chill me today.

The Terrain rating of 1 reflects that this cache can be retrieved by a person in a wheelchair. The Difficulty rating of 2 comes from the large amount of muggle traffic in the area during the day.
This cache is dedicated to actress Mary Tamm, who passed away from cancer on July 26 2012 at the age of 62.
