The bridge was designed as a carrier of hot water pipe from power plant Nikola Tesla to New Belgrade and began to be built in 1995th year. The project has changed several times, and the first change occurred in 1997th year. This change adds to bridge function of tanks and other military equipment transport. In further change the bridge is planned for other road traffic. In 1998th year, due to lack of funds, all works are suspended. In the next twelve years, the works on bridge are done sporadically on repair of some damages. In 2011. the works have been revived. The bridge is open to traffic first December 2011.
