In 1801, American mathematician Robert Patterson sent an encrypted message to Thomas Jefferson. Although Jefferson was into ciphers, he was not able to solve it. In fact, the cipher was not solved for more than 200 years.
In 2012, I found a puzzle cache that used Patterson’s cipher. After solving that puzzle, I was inspired to give you a chance to solve a similar puzzle. In order to solve the puzzle, you need a “key”. That will require some simple math.
Solve the following seven equations to determine the key:
100 - 57 =
35 * 2 =
40 + 21 =
4 * 4 =
68 / 2 =
30 + 22=
125 / 5=
The cache is a simple PnG once you solve the puzzle. It is NOT a lamp post and it is NOT in the landscaping. The difficult part is solving the puzzle. The find should be easy. You are looking for a micro container. There is no room for trade items or a pen, so please bring your own pen. During the business day, parking may be difficult.
