Geocache Description:

A small and simple cache commemorating the completion of the Edwin Land Parkway, connecting Jerrabomberra to Karabar.

The Area

The second part of the Edwin Land Parkway was opened on Monday the 23rd of July 2012, finally connecting Jerrabomberra with Karabar, and creating a shortcut for locals through to Googong and Cooma.

The parkway is a blessing and a curse to bushwalk lovers. It makes for easier access and showcases the lovely forest along each side of the parkway, while at the same time robbing it of some of its natural peace and tranquility. The best I can hope for is that people become more aware of the area, get out and about and experience the local flora and fauna.

The forest consists of gently rolling hills and trees criss-crossed by walking tracks (and the occasional illegal trailbike track). Muggles can be found at nearly any time of day - joggers, families walking their dogs, etc. GZ is on the slope of a hill where you can just catch a glimpse of the Parkway.

The Man

Edwin Henry Land (not to be confused with Edward H. land, the co-founder of Polaroid) was born in Queanbeyan in 1858. He was a licensee of the Victoria Hotel (as his father before him). He was elected to council in 1885, and then to Mayor of the city twice; the first time in 1890, and the second in 1892. He died in office1897.

The Cache

The cache is a small clip-lock plastic container with logbook, pencil and a few small swaps (LEGO themed of course). I've been experimenting with painting the containers on their interior rather than their exterior in the hopes that the paint will fare better over time. I'll be interested to see how well this one lasts.
