Geocache Description:

K6 red telephone box

To celebrate a year that has included the Queen's golden jubilee, the first British winner of the Tour de France and now the London Olympics, this magnetic nano cache will help you discover a classic of British design.

The red telephone box was designed in 1935 by English architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to celebrate the silver jubilee of King George V, and tens of thousands of them can still be found all around Britain, in former British colonies and even here in the heart of Saint Cyr sur Loire.

With the proliferation of mobile phones, the K6 red telephone box is becoming something of an endangered species, with a reported 80% drop in phone calls being made from them in the last 5 years. 60% of these red phone boxes in Britain are now losing BT money!

Of course, modern technology is not the only threat to these iconic booths, which are common targets for vandalism, public urination and promotional literature for ladies of the night. Thankfully, this one does not have any of these!

Finally, no celebration of Britain would be complete without our national anthem : God Save the Queen. Happy hunting ladies and gentlemen!
