National Treasure Cipher Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geotrophimus: I went to the GZ and found the cache to be missing. I saw evidence of human activity in the area, so I must assume that the ammo can was taken. Getting to the GZ took some effort, so given the exposure of the site to muggles and the terrain, I am reluctantly archiving the National Treasure Cipher cache. It lasted about 8 years or so.

Geocache Description:

NATIONAL TREASURE CIPHER CACHE

You have arrived in the dank chamber of the National Treasure Cipher Cache. Beware! Be very afraid.  You MUST use your noggin to get this one!  No easy find here.  So who wants to go down the creepy tunnel first?  You?  Great!

First go to the coordinates listed above and park. Then find a memorial structure with three names.  Use the middle name as the key to your cipher decryption.  What? Decipher an encryption?  Yes!  This will lead to the second set of coordinates wherein lies the second and final stage.

The cipher used is the one mentioned in the movie, National Treasure, Book of Secrets. Interestingly, this cipher was also used by John Kennedy during WWII when stranded on an island.  The cipher text is here in latitude and longitude formats:

Final coordinates 37 19.HMSAHKZNCFBN -80 2.QYMHFXNLFXCZ
finishing in the form of 37 19.*** and -80 2.***

In summary, decipher the letters after the period and you will see the numbers spelled out. If you can decipher the coordinates you can know you have the right ones by going to the Geochecker listed here to be certain: GeoChecker.com.

If you could work for the NSA, and you have deciphered the final stage geocoordinates, then look for an regular sized ammo can.

At least you don't have to steal the
Declaration of Independence or kidnap the POTUS, do you?
Be a treasure protector and solve the National Treasure Cipher Cache!
