A beautiful part of the Gironde region, with fields full of vineyards, sunflowers corn and tobacco. We have created a lovely circular route which can be walked, cycled or driven round (please note when driving you will not be able to go in the complete circle - there will be plenty of going back on yourself!). You can of course pull over in the car for the roadside caches, but parking at the car park waypoints is recommended. The whole route is either on quiet roads or public footpaths. A few of the caches near Dufreche itself are on private land, but that's ok as it's owned by the CO!
Each cache can be visited and logged in its own right, however some of the caches have an additional clue on the back of the log which when put together, will give you the co-ordinates to the bonus cache. There are five different clues to collect. You may visit the caches in any order you wish.

Origine du nom : du nom local du seigle ou évoquant l’occupation du territoire par les Alains.
Historique La commune est née en 1851 d’un démembrement de la commune d’Aillas qui, auparavant, englobant aussi Labescau, atteignait 6000 hectares. Ce grand territoire était le souvenir de l’ancienne vicomte d’Aillas, très étendue, qui jouxtait le nom moins important marquisat de Grignols. Mais la paroisse de Saint-Pierre-de-Sigalens existait depuis longtemps, et l’église actuelle a été reconstruite en 1775. Pour former la commune a été ajoutée a la paroisse de Sigalens l’ancienne paroisse de Glayroux, dont l’église a disparu, celle d’Aillas-le-Vieux, dont l’église a été récemment restaurée, et enfin celle de Monclaris. Le ruisseau du Lizos entaille largement le plateau argilo-calcaire des environs de Grignols, et plusieurs moulins au fil de l’eau enrichissaient le village, comme celui de Piquemil, celui de La Verrière, ou celui du Galouchey. Deux verreries anciennement tenues par des gentilshommes verriers a Lacombe et a Blazon, proches du Lizos, traitement les sables du pays. L’élevage du bétail fait depuis longtemps vivre des éleveurs qui animaient autrefois les grosses foires de Grignols d’Auros et de Bazas.
The village of Sigalens is very small, with a very good bakery where I recommend you stop to buy a snack! Next to the bakery is a car park, which I suggest you use if you plan on doing the series on foot.
The grain store / dovecote / folly is an unusual feature in the middle of the village, there are conflicting ideas as to what it is, and what it was used for! When we find out more about it, we will update this listing.
