Salt Spring Transit started operations in January 2008, with a predicted ridership of 16,000 trips in the first year. By the time January 2009 rolled around, more than double that number riders had tried the buses. After that remarkable year, the system received the Canadian Urban Transit Association’s “Exceptional Service with Outstanding Performance” award. Since then, the system, and the number of riders, has continued to grow. In 2011 more than 81,000 hopped on the buses to get around the island.
The cache is a rectangular micro. Stealth may be necessary, especially in the summer when there are likely to be several muggles enjoying coffee, sun and the view at the nearby cafe. No bushwhacking required; you won’t need to move any vegetation to locate or retrieve this one.
If you took the bus to get here, you should have time to check out at least one more nearby cache before the next bus arrives. There are two within easy walking distance (less than 2 km), and a third a little further away (about 4 km, in a different direction). You might even have time for coffee, lunch or an early dinner. Check the bus schedule for routes and times.
