Rat Snake Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

GaTrailblazers: Due to local land owner(s) repeated, stepped up harassment of cachers and missing caches as of late, we have decided to archive this series to protect cachers and geocaching in general.

Although none of the caches were more than 5 feet from the road and trespassing wasn't required, this is the best decision for all involved. Thank you to everyone who came out to hunt these caches and to those who performed maintenance. It was a fun run!

Geocache Description:

This series aims to give you a little information about wildlife of the Southeast.

Eastern Rat Snakes of the southeast come in 3 common varieties: Black race, Yellow race and Gray race. Black rat snakes are all black and are common in the uplands from North Carolina to Arkansas. The Yellow rat snake is common in east Georgia and along the Carolina coast. The Gray rat snake is common from southeast Georgia west to the Mississippi valley. All rat snakes swim well, climb trees and constrict their dinner(birds and rodents).

In the state of Georgia, all indigenous, nonvenomous snakes are illegal to kill or capture, and are considered to be in the custody of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources

Lucas/Cannon Road is rarely traveled but be aware of others who do use the road. You can pull over enough to easily not block the road to retrieve this cache.
