Gražiausia, mįslingiausia ir švenčiausia visoje Mažojoje Lietuvoje vieta, Rambyno alkakalnis, kuris lyg karūna, puošia lietuviškąją Vilkyškių kalvagūbrio dalį, nostalgiškai žvelgiančią į Nemuną, praeities toliuose nugrimzdusią Skalvą ir Prūsiją... Rambynas -mitologinė vieta, tautinio lietuvių pasididžiavimo ir garbingos praeities simbolis. Istorinių žinių apie Rambyną nedaug, gal todėl daug legendų, padavimų.. . Greičiausiai, Rambynas buvo skalvių šventvietė, o pilis – kitapus Nemuno, Ragainėje. Įvedus krikščionybę viešas kalno garbinimas nuslopo, bet nenutilo garsas apie jo šventumą. Visi iki pat 19 amžiaus rašiusieji apie Rambyną, pabrėžė jį esant šventviete, kurią lanko jaunavedžiai, gimdyvės, ligų ir negandų prislėgtieji ne tik iš Rambyno apylinkių, bet ir iš labai tolimų kraštų. Palietus stebuklingąjį Rambyno akmenį, žmonių godos išsipildydavusios. Kalną lankiusieji aukodavo pinigus, įvairių smulkmenų, o jaunamartės būtinai palikdavo savo austas keliajuostes. Gamtos dovaną, įspūdingo dydžio akmenį, laikytą šventu, 1811 m. girnoms suskaldė Bardėnų kaimo malūnininkas Švarcas. 1835 m., rugsėjo 12 –osios naktį Rambyno kalnas su didžiuliu trenksmu griuvo. Po apylinkes sklandė blogio nuojauta, kad kalno griūtis- dievo Perkūno kerštas. Antrą kartą kalnas griuvo 1878 m. 1926 m. vasarą kalnas atlaikė dar vieną griūtį. 19 amžiaus pabaigoje, bręstant tautiniam atgimimui, Rambyno kalnas vėl atgijo. Nuo 1885 m. visuomeninė kultūrinė „Birutės“ draugija rengė šventes, gaivindama meilę lietuvių kalbai, istorijai. 1928 m. Martyno Jankaus rūpesčiu ant Rambyno kalno pastatytas aukuras.1939 metais, Klaipėdos kraštą prijungus prie Vokietijos, aukuras buvo sudaužytas, o jo viršutinis akmuo nuridentas nuo kalno. 1989 metais jis surastas ir vėl užkeltas ant kalno. Iki mūsų dienų išliko tik nedidelė kalno dalis (46 m. virš jūros lygio) ir šimtmečiais nesikeičianti, didinga Nemuno panorama su tolumoje boluojančiu Tilžės miesto siluetu. 2003 metais aukščiausia Rambyno kalno vieta buvo sutvirtinta, sustabdyta kalno erozija ir pastatyti ąžuoliniai laiptai. [ENG] The most beautiful, mysterious and sacred place in the whole Lithuania Minor is Rambynas sacred mountain, which embellishes the Lithuanian part of Vilkyškiai Ridge like a crown and overlooks nostalgically the Nemunas, Scalovia and Prussia submerged in the distance of past… Rambynas is the mythological place, the symbol of national Lithuanian pride and glorious past. Not very much knowledge is available about Rambynas, perhaps therefore there are so many legends and stories… Very likely that Rambynas was a sacred place of Scalovians, and the castle was on the other side of the Nemunas in Ragainė (Ragnit). Having introduced Christianity, public worship of the mount was quelled; however the fame of its holiness did not fall silent. All people, who wrote about Rambynas up to the 19-th century, emphasised that it was a sacred place visited by young marrieds, women in childbirth, people depressed by illnesses and hardships not only from the surroundings of Rambynas, but also from very remote regions. People believed that having touched the stone of Rambynas, their desires would come true. The visitors of the mount sacrificed money, various little things, and brides necessarily left garters handwoven by them. The gift of nature, the stone of impressive size, which was considered as sacred, was shattered in 1811 m. by the miller of Bardėnai Village Shvarc. In the night of 12 September 1835, the Mount Rambynas collapsed with a great crash. The apprehension hovered around the environs that the fall of the mount was the revenge of the God Perkūnas. The second fall of the mount was in 1878. In 1926, the mount withstood one more fall. At the end of the 19-th century, at the nascent of national renaissance, the Mount Rambynas revived again. Starting from 1885, a public cultural association “Birutė“ organised festivals refreshing love to Lithuanian language, history. In 1928, with the care of Martynas Jankus on the Mount Rambynas was erected an altar. In 1939, when Klaipėda Region incorporated into Germany, the altar was broken and its upper stone was rolled down from the mount. In 1989, it was found and heaved up again on the mount. Only a small part of the mount remained till our days (46 m above sea-level) and the panorama of the Nemunas, which haven’t changed for hundreds of years, with the silhouette of Tilsit City seen in the distance. In 2003, the highest point of Rambynas Mount was fortified, the erosion of the mount was stopped and oaken stairs were built.
