Geocache Description:

Lots of places to park here. This cache will be tough in winter, depending on the amount of snow here. Lock n Lock container.

On this spot, surveyors working to locate a pass through the mountains for the transcontinental railway built a rough log building to house their supplies. The journey from Calgary with supplies was a long one so they brought them to “The Cache”. When they were in the middle of Rogers Pass it was much easier to come back to this spot for supplies than it was to go all the way to Calgary.
“The Cache” was the first name given our community in 1882, a name that stayed with us through the building of the railway.
It was in 1884 that surveyor F.W. Aylmer asked the fellow bringing the mail in from Calgary what the news was from along the line. The mailman replied “that upstart Mike Carlin has changed the name of his tie mill camp from Carlin’s Camp to Silver City!” Not to be out done the citizens gathered around the table agreed that as gold was worth more than silver “The Cache” would now be called Golden City.  In 1886, the postal department determined that Golden would never be an important center and the City was dropped.
The building that was “The Cache” was torn down to make way for this once bustling hotel! FTF pin. This is the 6th of 6 caches prepared by the Golden Museum as competition pieces for the 2012 Kicking Horse Country Fall Faire, which will take place on September 8, 2012. The Golden Museum's collection area is extends to Brisco to the south, so enjoy the drive in the beautiful Columbia Valley. In order to have your name entered in the draw to win a small prize at the Faire you need to bring proof that you have found all six of the KHCFF caches. They are named KHCFF1, KHCFF2, KHCFF3, KHCFF4, KHCFF5, KHCFF6. Proof (cell phone or GPS showing them found) needs to be brought to the Golden Museum before noon on Friday September 7, 2012. These educational and entertaining caches will be left out even after the event for everyone to find. Happy caching!
