North Y Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Absolute_Mellow: This is one of my older hides but the area is not what it was when I placed it; and replaced it, and replaced it.
Plus, I am seldom in the area any longer.
I am opening up the area for someone to place something better.

Geocache Description:

A simple cache at the north end of Mojave

The North Y

Some blame the Highway 58 Bypass as the downward turn of Mojave. What was once a very busy intersection is now reduced to moderate traffic flow. A far cry from the bustling traffic that went through here just 20 years ago. Yet many years before that the town was simply an area where two highways met and merged into one for the length of the town. US 466 and US 6. As time passed they became CA 14 and CA 58. These were simple two lane highways with little traffic. Businesses thrived during this time even with such light traffic. When I was a child this end of town, the North Y was merely a 3-way stop with no traffic lights. Traffic was light enough to allow it. There were no businesses at this end of the town just desert. Throughout the 80s and 90s traffic began to flow heavily through town and it was increased to four lane roads with a traffic light at the North Y. Businesses began to grow at this end of town. In the late 1990s it was decided that CA 58 should bypass the town. Business 58 still goes through town as does CA 14. Many believe this was the downward spiral for the town. Many of the businesses that once called Mojave home have left. I can tell you this was happening long before the CA 58 bypass. Much of the industries that made the town grow began leaving before the bypass. It was all bad timing. This cache is placed at the North Y. To me its a symbol of a time gone by. I remember it as a simple 3 way stop with a stop sign. I watched it grow into a major intersection controlled by a traffic light, and businesses growing around it. It is now a lightly traveled intersection with a handful of businesses that have survived the rise and fall of my home town.
