Geocache Description:

Cachen er en middels stor plastikkboks innpakket i en svart plastpose. Inneholder diverse spennende småting både fra "vikingtiden" og mer moderne tid.

The cache is a medium plastic container wrapped in a black plastic bag. The cache contains various items both from " the viking age" and more modern times.

Gullfunnet på Hæstad

På gården Hæstad på østre del av Hidra oppdaget bonden Petter Sivertsen i 1845 en gullskatt da han drev og opparbeidet åkeren (Jåbakken). En vakker armring ( 165.5 gr) og en vakker halsring (214 gr) lå innpakket i strå under en slett fjellvegg. Funnet var fra yngre jernalder. Armringen ble kjøpt av Kong Oscar I av Sverige og Norge samme år - samtidig med at Det kongelige Frederiks Universitet, Oldsagsamlingen kjøpte halsringen. I 1926 ble armringen gitt til Oldsaksamlingen av en anonym giver. Det viste seg senere at den anonyme giveren var Kong Haakon VII. Hvem og hvorfor gullskatten ble gravd ned vil man aldri få vite. Kanskje ble den gravd ned fordi tidene var utrygge, eller kanskje den ble gravd ned som gave til gudene. Ønskes mer informasjon om smykkene? The Golden Treasure at Haestad

In 1854 the farmer Petter Sivertsen found a beautiful armring (165.5 g) and a necklace (214 g) while tilling his land. The treasure was from the Iron Age. Both items are now at the University of Oslo, Collection of National Antiquities. Frederiks gate 2, 0164 Oslo

The place Hæstad is on the way to Rasvåg. Pass a small bridge and then the first road to the left. Narrow driveway. Road sign.
Attention: Because the ground is difficult the cache is situated approximately 200 m from the actual findspot of the treasure.
