Geocache Description:

This cache was placed by GS Troop 1160. We enjoy caching as we tour around New England and we are looking forward to reading the logs of those who come and seek our cache. We started off the cache with a few neat items and a travel bug too. Have fun! ******This cache is best found during the non-winter months as the road is not plowed all the way down and there will not be appropriate parking off the road towards the top. ******Thank you for visiting our cache.

Small sized cache container.

The Old Settler Cemetery in Warren is one of the oldest cemeteries in Maine. It is about one mile west on Route 1 from the iron bridge at the Thomaston-Warren line. Take Old Settlers Road (formerly Woods Road) to the east (right). The cemetery is on the left about .4 mile from Route 1 before reaching the river. This was the first cemetery in this area and was on property originally laid out by Waldo as the Meeting House Lot. The First Presbyterian Church was located between the cemetery and the river. Evidently there are dozens of graves unmarked, marked with fieldstones or with stones missing. Probably used from 1736 until the town cemetery was started about 1792.
