Container placed in the parish of High Toynton to celebrate its historical interest.
During the Great war, parishes across the country sent their sons across to France to fight for king and country. MIllions failed to return.
However, in the 1930s the author Arthur Mee identified a number of villages that failed to lose a single son to the mass slaughter. These he called "Thankful" or "Blessed" villages
Numbers of these villages vary but what is certain is that the small village of High Toynton was one of these. In fact, Toynton is only one of 5 "Doubly Thankful" villages; meaning it lost none of its men in the first or second world war
