Geocache Description:

One mile hike on established trails to cache and 360 degree view of the end of the Gunflint Trail

Are you ready for a one mile hike that gets you a 360 degree view of the end of the Gunflint Trail?  You are feet away from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and feet away from Blueberry Hill.

This also gets you a great view of the Ham Lake Fire burned areas from 2007, and what is happening with regeneration of the forest after that fire.  There are good birding habitats along the way along with interesting plants and shrubs.  Moose are possible too!

Directions: NO bushwhacking, take established trails only (unless you want to pick through fire-burned pick-up sticks):

Take the Amikwiish Trail to the intersection of Gneiss Trail and Big Sag Trail.  Take the Gneiss Trail to Blueberry Hill.

If you are searching this geocache near or after 5pm (when the museum closes for the day), you need to park outside the main gate at the sign on Moose Pond Road (County Road 81), not at the parking close to the trail entrance.  They will lock you in with the gate if you are significantly later than 5pm.  DO NOT BLOCK THE MAIN GATE WHEN PARKING!

This cache is not winter friendly, but winter possible, as you could snowshoe in from the main gate at the entrance of the Museum.  They are closed late fall through early spring.
