Geocache Description:

A new type of cache for the Peterborough area, the next nearest of this type is over 25 miles away and involves an eight mile walk that includes crossing the salt marshes near Kings Lynn. GCV89Y

To celebrate our athlete’s success at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Royal Mail have painted one post box gold for each gold medal winner, generally in their home town, as well as issuing a postage stamp depicting their victory. A total of 29 gold medals were won by Team GB, along with seventeen silver and nineteen bronze medals.

This is our celebration of our athlete’s success, a golden letterbox cache. Geocaching can trace it roots to the original letterboxes that were placed on Dartmoor in the 1850s, read more here .

If you have never found a letterbox hybrid cache before the following maybe useful:
  1. The cache contains a rubber stamp and ink pad THAT MUST NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE CACHE. The idea is to have your own personal log book that you take from letterbox to letterbox to record your finds. Use the stamp within the cache to record the find in your personal log book.
  2. The cache will also contain a traditional logbook for you to sign or stamp with your own personal stamp.
  3. Traditionally, stamped addressed envelopes and post cards are left in the letterbox (hence the name) for the next finder to post on when they find the cache, something we would encourage you to do. In this electronic age it is still nice to receive post that is not another bill to be paid. We will leave a post card in the cache to start this off.
  4. Envelopes and post card can be addressed to yourself, friends or family, especially if you are visiting the area on holiday.

In addition to the cache we have also activated a very special letterbox TB (but you do not have to find the cache to find the TB and vice versa) A stamp we found while sourcing one to be placed in the cache is just too nice to be left in a cache. The TB will stay with us to be discovered at events, so make sure you bring your personal log book to the next event.
