Geocache Description:

The cache is at the posted coordinates but you MUST fulfill the requirements before you may log a find on this cache.

Please read this page carefully for all of the challenge rules and requirements.

This Challenge's Goal:

The reasons for developing this challenge are to get more cachers to visit the caches within the Barton Creek Greenbelt (BCG), to experience what the BCG has to offer, and to encourage more "old-school" hides in the BCG and throughout the region.

Your challenge is to obtain a combined total of at least 30 finds located within the confines of the BCG as defined below.

Qualifications Levels:

For a little added incentive to explore the BCG, there are 3 levels of qualification. When logging your find, please state which level your are qualifying for. You may claim a new find for each qualification level. If you are already qualified for 1 or more levels, you may claim a find on each you are qualified for. If you become qualified for a higher level later, you may come back and claim another find with the required list as described below.

  1. Bronze - At least 30 BCG caches found.

  2. Silver - At least 45 BCG caches found.

  3. Gold - 60 or more BCG caches found.

Challenge Qualification:

  1. "Within the confines of the greenbelt" means that the listed coordinates of the cache must show as being within the green areas identified as the Barton Creek Greenbelt and Wilderness areas on the Geocaching.com Google map. As of 6/21/2016, this area DOES NOW include the Gaines Creek Greenbelt area.

  2. For this challenge, the BCG starts at, and is separated from Zillker Park by, the trailhead at N30 15.849 W097 46.397, west and south of Columbus Drive, and south of the Girl Scout Cabin access road. Any caches on the other side of Columbus Drive, east of the trailhead, or north of the Girl Scout Cabin road does NOT count. Please see this map for clarification.

UPDATE 11/26/2016: The maps no longer clearly show the boundaries of the wilderness area so for this challenge, it is defined as those undeveloped areas along Barton Creek within the boundaries of (starting from MOPAC and looping counter-clockwise) MOPAC, Loop 360, Lost Creek Blvd, Mirada Dr., Southwest Parkway, William Cannon, and the subdivision(s) along and off of Travis Country Circle. The area is VERY roughly outlined on this map

  3. Only finds of traditionals, virtuals, or earth caches will count for this challenge. No hides and no finds of other cache types may be used.

  4. All qualifying finds count regardless of the find date or the current cache status. So yes, archived caches count. See this bookmark list for the most current list of qualifying caches.

  5. Once you have qualified for the bronze or silver level and then found this cache, this cache can then be used once towards qualification for any higher level.

As mentioned previously, please see this bookmark list to see which caches qualify for this challenge. If you know of a cache that you think may be missing from this list, please send it to Semper Questio via his profile. He will check it and add it to the list if it qualifies. Semper Questio's decision as to a cache's qualification for this challenge is final.

Challenge Verification:

You have 3 options for providing your qualifying finds for verification and verification is required for all levels of completion.

  1. PREFERRED METHOD - Bookmark all qualifying caches in a list whose name includes the text "BCG Challenge" and keep the list publicly viewable for 30 days after posting your find for this challenge.

  2. List all of your qualifying caches in your find log.

  3. Send Semper Questio a list of all of your qualifying caches via his profile when you log your challenge find.

In any case, please note the date of each qualifying find.

Please do not post or send your qualifying list before logging your BCG Challenge find.
Verification will only be done when a find log is posted and we will not go looking for your stuff if you send or post it early.

Find logs without one of the above forms of verfication lists being made available within 24 hrs. of logging this find will be deleted without prior warning.

Once your qualification has been verified your name will be posted in the BCG Hall of Fame list above. If there are any questions regarding your qualification verification you will be contacted.

NOTES REGARDING THE CACHE RATINGS:

  • DIFFICULTY - The listed difficulty rating is for the potential degree of difficulty in meeting the challenge to qualify for this cache. The difficulty for THIS cache is significantly lower.

  • TERRAIN - The terrain rating is for THIS cache placement. The terrain could be easier or harder depending on your approach and the presence (or not) of water in your path. Bushwhacking will be involved regardless of your approach.

  • ATTRIBUTES - The attributes are also for THIS cache placement but some are conditional depending on your approach and recent weather conditions.
