Geocache Description:

An easy cache to find in this picturesque little Salento town.

The Pozzelle are a group of small tanks for collecting water. The Pozzelle, dug into the soft rock in a natural depression in the ground, were coated with porous limestone rocks so as to allow rainwater to filter. They have a depth ranging from four to six meters and an inverted funnel shape. At the top have a large block stone drilled in the center from which they brought out the water. The sinkhole, host about a hundred small pits, is now a park in the immediate vicinity of the downtown. The Pozzelle exist to see the ruts left by the chains and ropes, which for centuries have raised the water buckets or jugs "poggiarvi" circular grooves. Besides the wells are also some piles of stone, once used to water the horses or flock.

The FTF can keep the pin!
