Geocache Description:

Box Hill lies along the North Downs and has breathtaking views.

The cache is set to the side of a footpath, on a very steep hill. This footpath can be very slippery when wet. Please take care not to disturb the ground, the cache is not buried.

The cache is a small container and consists of a logbook and pencil. Please put the cache back as found i.e well hidden.

Box Hill is a Special Area of Conservation, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. The chalk downland environment supports notable populations of bats, lepidopterans, orchids and the hill's namesake, the box tree (buxus sempervirens).

If you have the time, Betchworth Quarry is within the Mole Gap to Reigate Escarpment Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC). It is set within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the North Downs.

Rich in flowers such as horseshoe vetch (a plant needed for the chalkhill blue butterfly) and several types of orchids, this chalk grassland reserve is best visited during the summer months. A yew and broad-leaved woodland can also be found around the edge of this former chalk quarry.

Access to the reserve can be accessed via the North Downs Way from The Coombe, Betchworth.
