On August 31st the moon will be full for the second time in August: A Blue Moon! How is this possible? Well, the lunar month lasts about 29.5 days, or the time it takes to circle once around Earth, during which time it goes through all of its phases, from new moon to full moon to new moon. We see the moon because of sunlight reflecting off its surface, and as it travels around our planet we see different amounts of its sunlit side. During a full moon, that means we are seeing the full sunlit face of the moon.
Usually a month has only one full moon, but since Earthly months are 30 or 31 days long, it's possible to sneak in two full moons in one of these calendar months. This is one of those months! If you miss it you wont have another shot until the end of July 2015! ![](/images/icons/icon_smile_cool.gif)
Did you know that it was once thought that if you slept out under a full moon you would go mad? This Lunar phenomenon is the root of the word Lunatic.
History doesn't tell us anything about what happens if you eat burgers under a blue moon but we aim to find out!
Join us at 25 Burgers in Matawan, NJ on the 31st of August at 6:30 PM for some food, fun and friends. Barking at the moon is entirely optional but certainly encouraged!
This event is certified Central Jersey!
