In the 18th century Hogganvik was a famous ship building place. The biggest Scandinavian wooden sailing ship (Saerimner) was built here.

Since 1972 Hogganvik landsby is home and working place for people with special needs and co-workers.
Hogganvik Landsby is part of the international anthroposophical Camphill movement.
