This trail follows the trackbed of the former railway from Tavistock to Bere Alston this part of the railway has been used by the locals as a walking route, this route will soon be transformed into a cycle track although more suitable of mountain bikes than a family friendly trail. The trail goes as far as the Shillamill Viaduct – for the time being! I have been in contact with Graham Cornish (DCC) who is in charge of the project he is quite happy with geocaches on this bit of the railway but warns of maintenance taking place soon, beware of earth moving machinery to make safe access routes and the cutting back of undergrowth, which is badly needed.
There are several railway cuttings to walk through which can be rather muddy, walking boots or wellingtons are advisable.
The best place to park is Uplands which means crossing the very busy A390 Callington Road Tavistock
BE CAREFUL ESPECIALLY COMING FROM THE RAILWAY VISIBILITY IS NOT GOOD.
