Geocache Description:

This is an Project A.P.E. Tribute Cache!

Shortly after the apocalypse the human race was nearly decimated and the survivors are scattered around the world, living in small communities built from the remnants of the fallen cities.

Humans have been forced to adapt to the new world by returning to their roots and living off the land. We have discovered an Alternative Primate Evolution (A.P.E.) and rekindled our relationship with these advanced primate ancestors, learning a great deal of knowledge and survival skills from daily interaction with them. They, too, have learned adapt to the new world and seem to be getting smarter every year. Humans and primates have learned to cohabitate well in what has now become Project A.P.E.

Small communities of human survivors are now living in the area once known as Montana. With abundant fresh water, wildlife for food, and wood for homes and heat ; the people of the area are doing well and are slowly rebuilding their Treasure State.

Stories have been told by some traveling nomads that in other areas of the world the new species of primates are not so friendly. It seems that the Advanced Primates are using Gorilla tactics to enslave some of the weaker human communities.

This is a 2-part Mission. Part 1: Cache supplies at different elevations are used as look-out posts for observing the other communities and watch for nomads, as well as serving as an early warning system for when hostiles are spotted. The secret name for these hostiles is “Muggles”. In The cache there is an ape mask and hands, to use as a disguise. Please feel free to put the mask on and take pictures of yourself to post. Part 2: Find, maintain, and record memories of the world as you remember it and store those memories in these well hidden caches around the world for future generations.

As you attempt to find this cache, you must part with your vehicle at N46 45.645 W111 56.326 and proceed the last 1/3 mile on foot. Keep a close watch around the area to be sure you are not seen, or being followed by, a Muggle. The terrain is steep and rocky in places so please use caution. Remember if you take a memory item from the past, please leave one of your own so future generations can enjoy the way the world once was.

NOTE: This is a tribute cache. There is not special icon available for finding this cache

This cache is a Tribute cache to the Project APE series. A series of 12 “Mission” caches were hidden to promote the 2001 release of Planet of the APES.

I had missed my opportunity to get the Mission 9: Tunnel of light A.P.E cache (GC1169) while in the area at Geowoodstock VIII and finish the "Triad". The Triad consisted of the "Original Stash", The "Groundspeak HQ" Cache, and the "A.P.E." cache. Well I got 2 out of three and as the song goes, that ain't bad.

The Mission 9: Tunnel of Light, an A.P.E. cache was hidden on 7-18-2001 and Archived on 6-13-2011. Moun10Bike and Jeremy Irish were the original placers of the cache. Since then Moun10Bike had taken over complete ownership until the cache was finally archived.. Many thanks to Moun10bike for all the years of dedication and maintaining the Project A.P.E. cache
