Geocache Description:

Please note that Mobile Phone coverage is very poor in this area so you are advised to download the required information prior to your visit to allow for access when offline.

This geocache has been placed with the kind permission of the RSPB.

2nd cache in a series of 6 on a circular route approx 3km (1.75 miles) - Allow up to 2 hours to complete the route.

The crags on the left where the trail begins are called Allt Y Gribin. There are magnificent views of the surrounding hills on the walk up to the waterfall and on the way back down.

Note As sheep and lambs roam freely in the area please keep dogs on a lead.

About the Cache

Continue the route from #2 by following the RSPB Green Trail markers through a gate and uphill onto an uneaven path. Do not cross the river. Take care as the path can be muddy and GZ boggy underfoot after heavy rain.

The cache contains a log, pencil, and a few small items of swag.  The container is suitable for small travel bugs or coins and small items of swag and while a pencil has been provided you would be wise to bring your own pen.

Grey Heron

The Grey Heron is an unmistakably large bird with a heavy bill, long legs and neck. The black and white patterning on the head and neck contrasts with the grey body. The large dagger shaped bill is a highly efficient tool for fishing; it is normally yellow but turns bright pink when breeding.

These birds have been seen on the Lake Vrynwy RSPB reserve so as you continue walking through the valley to the beautiful Rhiwargor Waterfall also known as Pistyll Rhyd-Y- Meinciau you might just get to see one.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • Due to the nature of the work undertaken by the RSPB, it may at times [such as during the breeding season] become necessary to temporarily disable this cache and we would ask that you respect our decision to do this.
  • Permission has been granted to place geocaches on the strict understanding that the RSPB nature trails are open to walkers only. Unauthorised vehicular and cycle access to these trails is strictly prohibited and any failure to comply with these conditions could result in prosecution and/or the removal of all the geocaches from the reserve.
