Geocache Description:

The fifth cache of my Triforce Challenge Series, although it can be found as a stand-alone cache. The series will take you to seven different locations throughout Deep River, Chester, and East Haddam.  If you are planning to find the final cache of the series, Ganon’s Tower, you will need the information found within it.  Do not forget to record the number you find inside this cache!

Power.  Wisdom.  Courage.  These are the three attributes held in perfect balance in the Triforce, the ultimate source of power in the Legend of Zelda video game series and has thus become its most recognized symbol.  It recently dawned on me that it could be argued that these three attributes need to be held by geocachers (although sometimes power may need to be replaced with stealth.)  For this reason I decided to create a geocaching homage to my favorite of the Zelda series, The Ocarina of Time.  The Triforce Challenge contains seven individual caches, the first six of which can be obtained as their own finds.  However, like the hero of the Zelda series, Link, you will need the treasure found within each temple to find your way to the seventh and final cache of the series, Ganon’s Tower.

With success in the realms of forest, fire, and water fresh in his head, Link returned to the sleepy little Kakariko Village just as a gruesome beast was attacking it.  Knocked out in the commotion, Link was of little help during the attack, however when he came to, the mysterious Sheik told Link of the way into the Shadow Temple, where the beast was now hiding.  Before he could make his way into the shadows, however, Link needed to retrieve a special item.  To do this he needed to return to the Temple of Time and go back seven years.  As a child he was able to claim the Lens of Truth, and with this in hand he could pass through the illusions guarding the Shadow Temple.

Located behind Kakariko Village, in the back of the graveyard there, the entrance to the Shadow Temple led Link into the darkness.  Inside, Link used the Lens of Truth to see past the tricks that the shadows threw at him, though the gruesome interior was no illusion.  Link traveled through catacombs and torture rooms to defeat undead creatures before obtaining the Hover Boots.  Using these, and a little bit of faith, Link was able to confront and defeat the shadow beast Bongo Bongo deep within its lair.  With the beast gone, Princess Zelda’s old nanny, Impa awoke as the Sage of Shadows.  She presented Link with the Shadow Medallion while requesting that he look after Zelda in her absence.

Cache is located in one of the more interesting graveyard locations in the area.  For added adventure, I suggest parking at the base of the hill and taking the pathway up, however there is a paved driveway into the cemetery.  All cache containers in the series are the same size and shape, with a Triforce emblazoned on their lids.  Inside, you will find the medallion of the temple, marked with a single piece of the coordinates you will need to obtain the cache at Ganon’s Tower.  Enjoy your journey, and may the goddesses watch over you!

Next on your adventure is GC3V7T4, the Spirit Temple.
