Ungnyeo is the mother of Dangun.
웅녀 계단길은 2012년 8월 8일 단군로에서 마지막으로 남아있던 가파른 길에 설치되었습니다.
Mt. Manisan stands 469.4 meters high from sea level. Three mountain peaks stand abreast of each other viewing the beautiful scenery, and Chamseongdan altar is located on top of central peak. From top, you can see many islands in the south of west sea, and also the Mt. Song-aksan in the north on bright weather. Chamseongdan altar is known as place where Dangun performed religious services to Heaven, and like the Cheomseongdae in Gyeongju, the base of altar is round symbolizing the sky and square platform the earth.
According to the Samguk-yusa (three countries' historic records) Dangun appeared in Mt. Myohyangsan and afterwards established a capital in Pyeongyang, northern part of Korea, and called the nation Joseon, but he bestowed the country to Giza Josen and became mountain god. None of the detail records of the Mt Manisan and Chamseongdan are available but in the old map of Korea,
마니산의 유래
마니산의 원래의 이름은 우두머리라는 뜻의 ‘두악’으로 고려사, 세종실리지리지, 태종실록에 기록이 되어있으며, ‘마리’는 머리를 뜻하며, 민족의 머리로 상징되어 민족의 영산으로 불러 오고 있다. 강화군에서 가장 높은 산으로 높이가 472.1m 이며 사면이 급경사로 화강암이 넓게 분포되어 있다. 정상에는 단군이 쌓고 제사를 지냈다는 높이 6m의 참성단(사적 제 136호)이 있으며, 이곳에서 전국체육대회의 성화가 채화되며, 해마다 개천절에는 개천대제사가 성대히 거행된다. 참성대 내 소사나무는 수령이 150년이 되고 높이가 4.8m로 국가지정문화재 제 502호로 지정되어 참성단을 풍체 좋게 지키고 있다. 등산로는 계단로, 단군로, 함허동천 능선로, 계곡로, 정수사로가 잘 정비되어 있으며, 동쪽기슭에는 함허동천 야영장과 신라 선덕여왕때 창건한 ‘정수사’가 자리하고 경내의 법당은 보물 제161호로 지정되어 있다. 현재 마니산은 1977년도 ‘국민관광지’로 지정되었으며, 전국에서 가장 기가 쎄다하여 많은 관광객이 찾고 있다.
