Larch Mountain Buck Creek Trail #3 Traditional Cache

The forest around here has seen its fair share of activity!  Natural events like wildfire and windstorms have taken place in this area over the past several hundred years.  These events are called "disturbances" and influence the age and distribution of trees and other vegetation.

In the western Cascade foothills, fires are infrequent.  In places like Larch Mountain, a forest fire may only occur every 250 - 350 years!  When fires do happen here, they tend to be big.  Very big!  Most fires in the Cascade foothills will wipe out whole stands of trees and start a new cycle of renewal and regrowth.

Look around for signs of one of the primary "disturbance" types on Larch Mountain:  wildfire.  Charred, blackened stumps indicate that fire swept through this area several hundred years ago.
 
 
This is a beautiful, well marked trail that is very seldom used.  There are two picnic areas along the trail.  The "No Trespassing" signs at the parking area and gate are for the wooded area to the right of the gravel road.  The trail is a little over a half mile from the gate. Cache was missing and now moved to a new location. It is closer to the shelter. I did not have a way to find the new coordinates. Please feel free to post coordinates when you find the cache. Should be an easy find.
