Just another little site in the Mulligans Flat area that is relatively unknown. This time an old 'Well'.
Was looking at an old school topographical map of the Gungahlin area that was from 1919. It showed all the old roads, properties etc. I noticed that it had marked a 'Well'. I took note of the location and set off on an adventure to find the old 'well'.
What I found was not what I expected. The 'Well' is not a deep hole with a nice bucket and rope like we all like to think. This 'Well' is a 3m x 3m digging (like a very small dam) that would have been used to water stock in dry times (considering it is right next to the creek). You can clearly see that the area would remain water logged even in drought.
After finding the old 'Well' I soon wored out that the land it sits on is technically still rural lease. Thus the cache is not at the 'Well' however is about 150m due West back in the Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve.
