Geocache Description:

Micro, BYOP. Please retrieve and replace with care. BIBB (Best If By Bike), but could also be a park and grab.

No matter where you're headed today, I can confidently assume that this cache will not be on your way there.

The southern segment of the Riverfront Trail is also the levee road, used by public works crews. It's part of the citywide trail system and is open to bicycle and pedestrian traffic, but the only safe public access to it is either 10th & Missouri (near the Veterans Memorial Bridge) or 2nd & Hickory to the north. NOTE: As of 8/27/12 the section north of this cache is still posted as being "closed," although cyclists and walkers appear to still use it. NOTE: You'll want to study the map for car access! Start at the corner of 10th & Pierce and make your way around to 2nd & Hickory. (2nd street is pretty rough; you may want to come south on 5th to Pine, Pine to 3rd, and 3rd to Hickory.) Once you're at 2nd & Hickory and facing the private gates, there's a gravel road that goes south around the fenced area toward the trailhead.
Note the difference in posted signage: from here to the north, the sign reads "no unauthorized vehicles or pedestrians." To the south, the sign reads "no unauthorized vehicles."
No matter which access you use, DO NOT PARK on or adjacent to the levee road. The trail runs between the BNSF tracks to the west and the river to the east; do not trespass or gain access in either of those directions. Access is only from the north and southern trailheads.

While placing this series of caches, I visited with an employee from the nearby building, and also a neighborhood walker. The BNSF employee helpfully pointed out the trailhead and also recommended where to park, which I marked as a child waypoint. He said NOT to park on or near the levee road / trail, and also not to block the BNSF access roads, and that as long as I did so it should be fine. A city Public Works truck drove past my parked car and entered the road going north, and did not indicate that I was in anyone's way. Of course, your experience may vary, but I left my car at the parking coords for half an hour and biked to the Vets Bridge and back, placing these 4 caches.
