Geocache Description:

Small cache enjoy the docks, sit a spell fed the geese Congrats to bmgct FTF Thanks for the Info on Dit Clapper!

In a special ceremony the former Water St. was renamed Dit Clapper Dr. Water St. was selected because it was the site of the original Clapper homestead. Hockey Hall of Famer Aubrey “Dit” Clapper, was raised in Hastings and retired to Peterborough. Both communities have a claim on this icon of our national winter game but Hastings is stepping up and honouring him. Dit’s amazing career in hockey spread over 20 seasons as a player, from 1927 to 1947, all with the Boston Bruins. Dit also coached the Bruins and when he retired in 1947, the Bruins retired his No. 5 jersey and the Hockey Hall of Fame immediately inducted him — the only player who has received that honour. He was an executive member for the Petes Junior A franchise when it started in 1956. His grandson, Greg Theberge, played for the Petes as did his great-grandson, Brett Theberge. After Dit finished hockey he returned to Peterborough. His sporting goods store on George Street became the gathering place of the sports fraternity in the city. George “Red” Sullivan worked there in the summers while he was playing in the NHL.
