This is a mini-power trail for those who like to hike and cache or cache from their 4WD vehicle. This trail was a bit too much for me in my Subaru, so I hiked to place all of these caches. There are many specified 4WD trails in the area and many hiking trails as well (please don't get them confused). I have labeled the ones that I see being along a 4WD road or trail as such; please do not attempt to drive to those labelled as hiking power trail caches.
The caches are usually placed within 50 ft of FR542 (or any of the other trails) which varies in elevation from 7000 to 7300 ft. The main trees in the area are pinon and juniper that get to about 8 to 10 ft tall, offering a little, but not much shade midday (i.e., wear sunscreen/hat/etc if caching midday). I did see a bullsnake while I was placing caches and I expect rattlers are in the vicinity as well (along with squirrels and other high desert wildlife). There are lots of pretty but thorny cacti and yucca that populate this region, too (so watch where your step).
High and low parking locations are given in Jeep Power Trail #1 if you want to get out and hike; much of the road has convenient pulloffs if you want to get out of the jeep for a while. Most of the caches along the roads are camoflaged containers which are a bit more difficult than those along the trails.
