Yeah you know this music!
Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 Op. 39, are a series of marches for orchestra composed by Sir Edward Elgar.
This cache is inspired by the SMU Campus in Plano just to your Northwest and to give you some extra credit in your thirst for knowledge and finds.. Sousa move over! In fact WRR’s Classical 101.1 annual March March countdown for the past ten years it has never failed to make it into the top 10 as voted by listeners. It makes it into my top 5 list of all time favorite pieces of classical music.
Pomp and Circumstance has become the defacto standard for processional music at high school and collegiate graduation ceremonies throughout the country. Chances are that each of you as well as your children and grandchildren have (or will) march down the aisle on graduation day to the strains of this famous work. The Pomp and Circumstance Marches were first performed in 1901 in Liverpool, England with Elgar himself conducting.
