Geocache Description:

A simple traditional cache with a stamp inside for letterbox collectors. Please leave the stamp inside the cache.
Parking is available much nearer to GZ, but please do not park at the Roman Way Hotel itself (their request).

Roman Letters

Letterbox caches are far older than geocaches, and are intended to be found by following clues along a trail, a bit like a multi. You have a choice here - you can do this cache like a traditional geocache - just go to the icon location - or you can follow the trail of clues, just like a proper letterbox cache.
The icon on the map is the location of the actual cache itself, and the STARTING POINT of the letterbox trail is at the stated parking coordinates and is approx 1km away from the actual cache!

Parking: Please do not park on the property of the Roman Way Hotel - they allow access to the footpath but do not wish us to randomly use their hotel car park! Other parking is available in lots of locations nearby.

Traditionally you find a letterbox cache by following clues.  Try this...

Parking at the stated coordinates.
  1. Heading North, cross the road and head past a place where you can no longer post letters...
  2. Keep going north and you will cross over a must-messed-with stream. Walk past a 'field of commerce beside a liquid'.
    • This is built on top of the old Hatherton Canal, which fell victim to subsidence .
  3. As you approach the 'infinity' of vehicles, keep on the footpath and bear left.
    • You are now walking along the route of Telford's road to Holyhead and the Roman Road to Wroxeter!
  4. Soon you will come to the 'Hostelry of the Ancient Latins'.  Head onto their property and towards the rear of their furthest building, where you see some nice grass.
  5. Behind this grassy area you'll find a footpath, and locate a nicely-restored structure that can convey you across a man-made but much-neglected stream.
  6. This is the end of the line for the Hatherton Canal nowadays.  And it's the location of the letterbox cache - GOOD LUCK finding it!
