This cache is located in Belfast's Cathedral quarter. Traditionally, the Cathedral Quarter was the centre of Belfast's trade and warehousing district, which sprung up directly from the prosperous linen and shipbuilding industries. The quarter still retains some of Belfast's oldest buildings and thoroughfares, including Waring Street and Hill Street.
In recent years, Laganside Corporation sponsored initiatives including a 'Managed Workspace' scheme, in which artists are invited to inhabit workshop space owned and refurbished by Laganside. The first such scheme was the refurbishment in 2002 of an old cotton warehouse, named Cotton Court.
The Merchant Hotel, which can be seen from this site, is a building which was built in the mid-nineteenth century as the headquarters of the Ulster Bank, and was transformed into a hotel in 2006.
After you've found the cache, there is a lovely little tile mural of the Cathedral Quarter area in Cotton Court, be sure to have a look at it while you are here! If you are standing looking at the Merchant Hotel with Cotton Cotton behind you and 21 Social to your right, the mural is to your left on the wall.
The cache is a long, thin, clear plastic container and can hold only a logbook so don't forget to bring your own pen or pencil!
