A gambol around Grittleton. Some are accessible to wheelchair users. There are a couple of stiles and footpaths across fields. Part of your gambol will take you along the Fosse Way, a Roman road which starts in Exeter and travels diagonally across England to Lincoln. The village is in Wiltshire in the area of South Cotswolds, an area of outstanding beauty.
The Fosse Way is of Roman origin. Fosse being the Latin word for ditch.

The Fosse Way
Just about 2000 years ago, in this area, the Roman Army used this track as a direct route from Exeter in the South to Lincoln in the North, some 182 miles. The Fosse Way was the route which linked Exeter (Isca Dumnoniorum) to Lincoln (Lindum Colonia) in Lincolnshire, via Ilchester (Lindinis), Bath (Aquae Sulis), Cirencester (Corinium) and Leicester (Ratae Corieltauvorum).
