Geocache Description:

** Please read all of the description below before doing this cache**

It was almost 10 years ago that my family first spotted the tree as we travelled down the hill towards the Princess Margaret Bridge.

*Update December 13, 2018 - Hey look! Others are interested in the tree too! :D https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/fredericton-giant-tree-big-1.4941348?fbclid=IwAR3S1L1Z39b9UcMcx5fqaUbX5Hw2247fXot7vM5S3fTTQyjASwRFUY_sVMg

I'm sure that many of you have seen it.

We always thought how cool it is that one tree towers over all of the others to be the most visible from a distance.

A couple of times over the years we made minor efforts to try and find the tree but we never quite went high enough up the hill I suppose.
So on Labour Day 2012 the boys and I decided that it was time for one last shot, do-or-die, all-out effort to find it and hide a cache near our tree.

We walked over 2 kilometres with much of it uphill, through puddles and over rock.

Finally we reached the top and surveyed all before us.

No luck...
From up here we couldn't tell for certain. There are many huge trees everywhere but none that we could be absolutely positive are the special tree.

Dang.

Anyway, we found a tree that looks pretty darn big and hid the cache right beside it.

Fortunately this entire trip is on a trail and no bushwhacking is required. (Unless you really want to I suppose.)
I strongly recommend that you park at the parking waypoint and head on foot to the cache. Even though it is a trail there are spots which may prove to be hazardous to an ATV, snowmobile or motorcycle.

You could try a mountain bike if you wish but I wouldn't recommend it.

To get the real spirit of the cache journey as we did, avoid;
1) Starting at the top of the hill and walking down to the cache. It's a great feeling when you walk up and finally reach the top.
2) Using an ATV or snowmobile to reach the cache. Foot power is more satisfying.

This one is ideal for walking and enjoying the trip.

Cache has a log book and pencil only and is a small camoed container but look for the bright red lid. That should help.

Our accuracy was within 5.2 m but if anyone can get better accuracy I would appreciate it if you send me your co-ordinates and I will update accordingly.

We hope that you enjoy it. Please have fun and be careful.
