Flaggy Fields - People Power Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RedwoodWarriors: We were going to do maintenance on this today but when we got there the cache had gone. Given that the others in the little series have been archived now, we think it's time to put the whole series to bed. Thank you to all who have visited over the years: it's been good to bring you a little bit of local history.

Geocache Description:

This can be combined with other caches in Orrell to make an easy 3-mile circular walk, probably best starting from Orrell Water Park as parking is plentiful there.

There are several more caches in and close to Redwood Park, and along Brook Lane and Hall Lane, which would make a 3-mile circular walk back to the Water Park.

Flaggy Fields – People Power. In 1965 they put the M6 through and for a while it looked like there would be no more Flaggy Fields. The intention was to close the footpath. But they reckoned without a group of local young mums who insisted it should remain, providing a quiet and safer walk for them and their toddlers than using the main road up to the library at Orrell Post. All it needed was for the authorities to put in a footbridge over the new slip road here. They went to the local Wigan Observer newspaper with their campaign – and won. So hats off to them – you are using that footbridge today.
