The building of the new bypass has made High Newton a quiet oasis and the old main road is but a shadow of its former self. It's now pleasant to explore the central hub of the village. Opposite the popular pub is a lovely little community garden, complete with small stream running through it. An old enclosed well is at the NE end and what I believe is an old pump stump stands in the garden. Unfortunately, geohounds are not allowed in the garden to enjoy a splash. A village hall is nearby and further along the road at Low Newton is an architectural salvage centre with a cafe. The village, like many, lacks a shop or PO.
So, swing off the bypass and visit this peaceful spot.
Find stage one at the co-ordinates above, with a little stealth and a good eye.
Stage two is not far away, a short drive or ride. A quiet bifurcation of the ways and the views begin.
Stage three is another short drive or ride and provides magnificent views. Do visit on a clear day.
The village is suitable for wheelchair users, and the drive to the final viewpoint is well worth it. Assistance would be needed to retrieve the caches however.
