Not much happens in Pine Prairie, except when something does, everyone here knows within the space of an hour. Yet time seems to pass this town by.
I grew up in this town and watched it change very, very slowly. We called it 'Big Pine Prairie' like that was something worth bragging about. My friends and I used to play guitars under the gazebo and bother the neighbors across the street until the cops would ask us to leave. We've only ever had one yellow flashing caution light, and we celebrated the 2000 Census when Pine Prairie finally became a 'Village' of 1000 people.
I played pool at Joe's when Joe's was in the apartment duplex to the north. I took karate when the store nextdoor was a reception hall and when the flooring store nearby was a VHS rental store. The Pine Cone Restaurant you see there is its second incarnation; It burnt down when I was in grade school.
Two blocks away is Pine Prairie High School, where before consolidation happened in Evangeline Parish, I attended K thru 12. PPHS athletics are legendary, particularly in Basketball, Softball and Track and Field.
The gazebo was built in 1993 and flagstones were placed around to honor our locals. Take the time to remember our veterans who gave their life in service to our country.
