The Esk Trail 5 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Trottie True: This series of caches have done really well over the last couple of years but, I think its time for them to go, after all they were only supposed to be for a short time over the Vogrie event.

Geocache Description:

A great series of caches set along the Esk trail route. Suitable for walking and Horse riding. The trail is easy to moderate walk using minor roads and tracks along the way. PYOP Suitable footwear is advisable as parts of the walk can get muddy and rough.

The Esk Trail

This route forms part of one of the British Horse Society’s Tyne-Esk Horse Trails.

You can start your walk at Vogrie Country Park car park by taking the path past the West Lodge Gate House, at the park entrance, to Newlandrig just west of Vogrie. Follow the green north-pointing finger post at Newlandrig which takes you along a right of way, then uphill to a minor road junction. Turn right and follow the road for 0.5km until a bend in the road at Southside farm. Continue up the hill for a further 0.5km and go through a metal gate on the left that leads into woodland.

This path continues through the woods until it gives way to spectacular open views north to Edinburgh and south to the Moorfoot Hills. Known as the Camp Wood, this area harbours archaeological relics from Roman times.
While doing these caches you will come across a few other cache: Danny's View, Camp Wood 1 & 2, Brae's View and Pathhead View.So these are worth putting on your GPS too
