When we think of epic or famous bus routes, there are few of us who think of the Number 49 from Swindon to Trowbridge, but for some reason this was pciked from thousands of others by the BBC's Excess Baggage Programme back in 2010.
The journey is quite thrilling, taking in as it does such august sites as the Science Museum Large Object store and Library, The Hackpen white horse, Avebury, Silbury Hill and the scenery like the horses on the gallops just outside Beckhampton, al this before you even get to Devizes. And it doesn't stop there, for in Devizes you've got the wonder Canal Musuem, the Calne flight, the Castle and of of course the Brewery.
But its not just places to visit that make this route special, for the downlands it travels across is quite lovely and home to many rare species of orchids and birds.
The number 49 runs once an hour which means that if you get off here, you could have a bit of a wait for the next bus to come along, mind you being cachers you can probably find some others to visit before hoping back on.
Just remember that the A4361 is a busy road so keep an eye on the young 'uns and dogs.
