Geocache Description:

This cache is placed just off of Forest Service Road 3097.

The cache was placed by J & K of Martin 5 and K's girl friend, SS, after completing the CoI Series of caches.

After we placed the cache, we had to decide on what to call it. K came up with the name "Deer Crossing" based on the herd of about seven Mule Deer we encountered in the middle of the road between CoI #56 and ground zero.

Having already decided on the name due to the deer herd we had seen near ground zero, we found that perhaps "Elk Crossing" would have also been a fitting name, when we encountered a large 6 point bull elk standing in the middle of the road on our way back down the mountain. A short distance later we encountered the rest of his herd consisting of about eight elk cows and calves.

The moral of this story, be careful driving up, or down, the road as you never know what type of animal herds you might find just around the next corner.
