La Bell'Alda
 Sopra il Monte Pirchiriano quattro monaci e un decano, senza mai badare a spesa, costruirono una chiesa per l'arcangelo Michele santo buono come il miele.
Un mattino, di buon'ora la bell'Alda, snella e mora, alla Sacra si diresse per far fede a due promesse; ma gli sgherri di un padrino le sbarrarono il cammino.
Alda corse a perdifiato verso l'eremo agognato, alla fine della strada, incalzando la masnada, per non perder la virtù la fanciulla volò giù, poi la Vergine invocò che per terra l'adagiò.
I paesani assai sorpresi la seguirono per mesi e così quella smorfiosa, diventata vanitosa, replicò il tuffo carpiato, che non fu più fortunato! (di Mariano Salvatore)
 La leggenda della Bell'Alda
è tra le più note in valle di Susa ed è legata al suo monumento principe, la Sacra di S.Michele.
Essa risale ad un momento storico nel medioevo in cui la valle di Susa era percorsa da mercenari dediti ad ogni sorta di torbida azione e razzia per cui lgli abitanti impauriti si rifugiavano alla Sacra, che era diventata come un fortino. Durante una di queste incursioni un gruppo di valligiani era scappato sul Pirchiriano: uomini, donne, bambini speravano di trovare nel monastero la protezione per sottrarsi alla furia dei malviventi. Fra di loro c’era una bellissima fanciulla di nome Alda che, proprio per la sua prestanza fisica, era chiamata Bell’Alda. Dopo aver seminato il terrore nella valle i soldati si misero sulle tracce dei fuggiaschi e salirono al monastero. Qui rubarono tutto il possibile, uccisero i monaci e gli sfollati, non prima però, di aver oltraggiato le donne. Solo Alda riuscì a sottrarsi nascondendosi in un torrione, appunto, la torre della bell'Alda. Qui la giovane si mise a pregare intensamente la Madonna e quando i soldati la raggiunsero raccomandò la sua anima alla Vergine e si buttò nel vuoto piuttosto di finire tra le grinfie di quelle furie umane. La sua fede così viva la salvò: la Madonna mandò in suo soccorso due angeli che discesi dal cielo la presero per mano e l’accompagnarono nel volo depositandola dolcemente a terra. Si dice che la vanità è femmina e per la Bell’Alda mai proverbio fu più azzeccato. Infatti, quando finirono le scorrerie, passata la paura e tornata la serenità, Alda andò in giro a pavoneggiarsi della sua impresa, ma nessuno dei paesani volle crederle. Allora Alda si infuriò per tanta incredulità e sfidò tutti riproponendo il salto nel vuoto. Ma questa volta la sua superbia fu punita e quando, davanti ai paesani increduli, si lanciò dal torrione si sfracellò sulle rocce sottostanti. Di lei non rimase nulla tanto che un detto piemontese recita «’l toc pi gross a l’è l’ouria» ovvero
«il pezzo più grosso è l’orecchio».
Dopo tanta poesia, arriviamo alla Vostra missione, forse per qualcuno un po' macabra, ma in fin dei conti siamo Geocachers tosti e curiosi, per nulla schizzinosi, che abitualmente infilano le mani ovunque: Dateci una mano a verificare se nel burrone nel quale Alda si lanciò, veramente non rimase più nulla di lei. Via Ferrata Carlo Giorda: E' classificata AD (abbastanza difficile) e si svolge sul versante nord del Monte Pirchiriano (962m s.l.m.) fino alla sommità dove sorge l’antica Abbazia della Sacra di San Michele. Il punto di partenza è nella località conosciuta come Croce della Bell'Alda, a circa 1 chilometro fuori l’abitato di Sant’Ambrogio di Torino (350m s.l.m.), in direzione di Susa. Si tratta di una via ferrata non particolarmente difficile ma piuttosto lunga visto che il dislivello da superare è oltre i 600 metri . Il percorso è molto vario con alcuni tratti di semplice sentiero e inoltre ci sono due vie di fuga in corrispondenza a due pianori, rispettivamente presso "Pian Castlet" e "U Saut du Cin".
Durata: Circa 2,5/3 ore se si procede in maniera veloce + 1 ora abbondante per la discesa su sentiero.
Attrezzatura per la via ferrata: Imbragatura, dissipatore d’energia, casco, calzature adeguate, guanti per chi vuole.
Parcheggio: Vicino al punto d'attacco della via ferrata, nei pressi della vecchia cava in disuso, vi è uno spiazzo nel quale è possibile parcheggiare. Potete anche parcheggiare a Sant'Ambrogio e percorrere a piedi per poco più di un chilometro la S.S. 25 fino al Waypoint "trailhead". La discesa del rientro termina praticamente nel centro del paese e pertanto il percorso più lungo all'andata viene ripagato a fine escursione.

 The Legend of Bell'Alda
is one of the most famous legends in the Susa valley and is linked to one of it's most important monuments, the Sacra di San Michele.
It was in the Middle Ages when the Susa valley was besieged by mercenaries engaged in raids and all sorts of murky action and the frightened inhabitants took refuge in the Sacra di San Michele, which had become like a fortress. During one of these raids a group of villagers had fled on Mount Pirchiriano: men, women, children hoped to find protection in the monastery to escape the fury of the criminals. Among them was a beautiful girl named Alda, who, because of his physical appearance, was called Bell'Alda. After sowing terror in the valley the mercenaries pursued the fugitives and went up to the monastery. They robbed everything, killed the monks and refugees, and outraged the women. Alda was the only one who managed to escape by hiding in a tower, which is today called the tower of bell'Alda. Here the maid began to pray intensely to the Madonna and when the soldiers reached her, she commended her soul to the Virgin and jumped into depth rather falling into the clutches of these barbarous men. Her faith saved her alive: the Madonna sent two archangels which descended from heaven and accompanied her during the fall depositing her gently to the ground. It is said that vanity is female and for Bell'Alda this is more than an appropriate proverb. In fact, when the raids finished, the fear of death went by and serenity returned, Alda went around to pride herself and show-off, but nobody of the villagers wanted to believe her. Then Alda got furious and challenged all performing again the leap of faith. But this time her pride was punished and when she jumped from the tower in front of the disbelieving villagers , her body smashed on the rocks below. There was nothing left from her and indeed there's a Piedmontese expression that says «’l toc pi gross a l’è l’ouria» meaning
«the largest part left is the ear».

Via Ferrata Carlo Giordano: is classified as AD (fairly difficult) and is arranged on the northern side of Mount Pirchiriano (962m asl) leading to its top to the ancient Abbey Sacra di San Michele. The starting point is in the area known as Croce della Bell'Alda, the Cross of Bell'Alda, about 1 km outside the village of Sant'Ambrogio di Torino (350m asl), in the direction of Susa. This Via Ferrata is not particularly difficult but quite long as the difference in elevation is more than 600 meters. The route is varied with some simple stretches on normal hiking trail and there are also two escape routes at two plateaus, respectively, at the "Pian Castlet" and "U Saut du Cin".
Duration: Approximately 2.5/3 hours if you proceed quickly + 1 hour for the descent path.
Equipment for the via ferrata: Harness, energy-absorbing lanyard, helmet, proper footwear, gloves if you want.
Parking: Close to the starting point of the via ferrata, near the old disused quarry, there is an open space where you could park. You can also leave the car in the village of Sant'Ambrogio di Torino and walk for a kilometer, the SS 25 to waypoint "trailhead". During the way back you'll pass in the town, so the longer route on the way there get's balanced by less route on the way back.

 Die Legende der Bell'Alda
gehört zu den am weitesten verbreiteten Sagen des Susa-Tal, auch wegen der Verbindung mit einem der wichtigsten Monumente des Tals, der Sacra di San Michele.
Sie bezieht sich auf das Mittelalter, in einer Epoche in der das Susa-Tal von zahlreichen Söldnern, Räubern und düsteren Gestalten durchwandert war, die alles plünderten und Unheil verbreiteten sodass die Bewohner des Tals oft Schutz in der Sacra di San Michele, die quasi eine Art kleine Festung geworden war, suchten. Bei einem dieser grausamen Überfälle floh eine Gruppe von Dorfbewohnern wiedereinmal hinauf auf den Berg Pirchiriano: Männer, Frauen und Kinder auf Schutz im Kloster, um den Verbrechern zu entkommen. Unter ihnen war ein junges Mädchen namens Alda, das wegen seiner schönen Erscheinung von allen Bell'Alda genannt wurde. Nachdem die Räuber unten im Tal Schrecken verbreitet hatten folgten sie den Flüchtigen hoch ins Kloster wo sie alles möglich stahlen, die Mönche und Flüchtlinge töteten und sich an den Frauen vergingen. Nur Alda hatte es geschafft zu entkommen, indem sie sich in einem Turm, der torre della bell'Alda, versteckte. Hier begann die junge Frau intensiv zur beten Madonna zu beten und als die Soldaten sie erreichten, versprach sie Ihre Seele der Jungfrau Maria und sprang in die Tiefe, um nicht unter die Fittiche der Räuber zu geraten. Ihr Glaube rettete ihr das Leben: die Madonna sendete zwei Engel vom Himmel welche sie bei der Hand nahmen, sie auf ihrem Flug begleiteten und sanft zu Boden liessen. Man sagt dass die Eitelkeit weiblich sei und bei Bell'Alda ist dies mehr als einfach nur ein Sprichwort. In der Tat, als die Raubzüge vorbei waren, Angst und Schrecken vergingen und wieder Heiterkeit herrschte, ging Alda herum um sich zu brüsten mit ihrem waghalsigen Unterfangen. Doch keiner der Dorfbewohner wollte ihr so recht glauben sodass Alda wütend vor lauter Unglauben wurde und es allen beweisen wollte indem Sie Sprung des Glaubens noch einmal durchführte. Aber dieses Mal wurde ihr Stolz bestraft und als sie sich vor all diesen ungläubigen Dorfbewohnern in die Tiefe stürzte, zerschellte sie auf den Felsen. Von ihr ist nichts übrig geblieben, in der Tat gibt es eine Piemontesische Redewendung die besagt «’l toc pi gross a l’è l’ouria», was soviel bedeutet wie «das größte verbliebende Stück ist das Ohr»."
Nach soviel Poesie kommen wir nun zu Eurer Mission, die vielleicht für den einen oder anderen ein wenig makaber klingen mag, aber letztendlich sind wir Geocacher, neugierig und kaum zimperlich, die fast alles anfassen: Geht uns bitte zur Hand um festzustellen ob in dem Anbhang, den Alda herunter sprang, wirklich nichts von ihr übrig geblieben ist. Via Ferrata Carlo Giorda: Ist als AD eingestuft (relativ schwierig) und verlaeuft auf der Nordseite des Berg Pirchiriano (962m über dem Meeresspiegel) bis an die Spitze, zur alten Abtei Sacra di San Michele. Der Ausgangspunkt ist in der Gegend welche Croce di Bell'Alda (Kreuz der Bell'Alda) genannt wird, ca. 1 km außerhalb des Ortes Sant'Ambrogio di Torino (350m ü.M.), in Richtung Susa. Der Klettersteig ist nicht sonderlich schwierig, aber recht lang, wie der Höhenunterschied von mehr als 600 Meter bereits erahnen lässt. Die Route ist variabel mit einigen einfachen Streckenabschnitten auf normalem Wanderweg. Es gibt auch zwei Fluchtwege an zwei Plateaus, die jeweils an der "Pian Castlet" und "U Saut du Cin" liegen.
Dauer: Etwa 2,5/3 Std wenn Ihr zügig voran geht + eine gute Stunde für den Rückweg.
Ausstattung für die via ferrata: Klettergurt, Klettersteigset mit Bandfalldämpfersystem, Helm, geeignetes Schuhwerk, optional Handschuhe
Parken: Nahe dem Startpunkt der Via Ferrata, in der Nähe des alten stillgelegten Steinbruchs, gibt es Platz zum parken . Ihr koennte auch in Sant'Ambrogio di Torino parken und rund einen Km zu Fuss, entlang der Bundesstrasse SS 25 zum Wegpunkt "trailhead" gehen. Der Wanderweg auf dem Rückweg endet quasi im Ort, so dass die längere Route auf dem Hinweg sich auf dem Rückweg auszahlt.
