Geocache Description:

This place is sometimes a peninsula, sometimes an island, depending on the lake level.  When the level's low, the peninsula is often covered with a beautiful lush deep-pile carpet of blue/purple lupines (recall Monty Python's "Your lupines or your life"?).

We accessed the site by canoe en route home from the Tahoe City Farmers MARKET. It's likely to be available 12 months/year.  It was difficult to find a spot for the cache less likely to be muggled, since this is apparently a beer-party site for someone.  So, the cache is not at lake level, but about 12' above the high water level.

His Story:

When the gang windsurfed at this beach daily in the summers of '77-'85, Bud Zink referred to this as Lou's Island, since she seldom ventured farther into the lake than the "TRAINING BEACH".  The name stuck, at least amongst the board-sailing groupies.  The lee of the Island was "Riley's Hole" 'cause Ed Riley frequently got caught in that area of zero wind attempting to sail out from the beach.

Yes, the island is private property ... of our good friend & client, Erik Henrikson & family. Erik's brother, Greg, usta sail with us in front of Ollie Henrikson's beach-front home in the good ol' days before Tahoe Windsurfers all became wind snobs & now only surf at Maui, Hood River, or Coyote Point in SF Bay
